How To Decorate Fondant Cake

 With Fondant

Some people love decorating cakes especially for special occasions. Fondant is one of the great ways how decorate a cake. It’s smooth and adds class to any cake, giving it a more professional look. It’s easy to use and can be applied to your cake easily as well. Here are a few steps to help you when using fondant.

Make sure that your cake is level before trying to use fondant. Keep the cake on a flat surface so that it’s completely flat with no gaps. If there are any rough edges, round them with a knife. If not, these may crack the fondant when it starts to dry.

Use a plate or a cake board to help secure your cake. Use a big spoonful of frosting to help it stay in place. This prevents it from sliding around.

Cover your entire cake with butter cream frosting. This can help cover up things such as imperfections and low spots. The fondant will act as a sealer and hide all of these things. The fondant will also stick to the icing.

Another great way how decorate a cake is to put the cake in the refrigerator to help it harden faster. If it’s cooled, it prevents the fondant from sagging.

You can also knead the fondant until it feels like clay. Roll it out with a rolling pin on a hard flat surface. If it starts getting sticky, try sprinkling it with some cornstarch. Roll it out until it is about ¼ inch thick and it should be a bit larger than your cake. It should cover the sides and the top of your cake.

Use your hands to help smooth the fondant. Always start at the center of the fondant and work your way out. Work your way out toward the outer edges and to the sides of the cake. This prevents air bubbles. Be careful to not stretch it out too much.
