How To Decorate Fondant Cakes

I want to start making fondant cakes to make a little extra cash, any suggestions?

Im fascinated by all the cake shows on tv. I spend countless hours on youtube watching videos and tutorials on how to decorate cakes. Im sixteen and I’d much rather make money doing something I think I’ll enjoy than having a 9 to 5 job. So what are the basics I’ll need? Please answer, thank you. I’m asking about tools and devices that I will need.

Honestly, I’m just like you. I’m thinking about creating a job on the side with this cake baking hobby thing. I’ve started making fondant cakes, the guy who answered first said it best- its definitely harder than it looks but its definitely do-able. Just practice a lot and keep watching tutorials, if you have the money it’d be nice to go to those little classes but I also think that it tends to get expensive being you have to pay for each class…

My first tip to you is not to buy your own fondant. I heard that the store-bought fondant tastes terrible (and whats a cake if it tastes terrible, right?) and I think it tends to be a little expensive (but I’m also a cheap person). So with that being said the basics that I think are:

A good tasting fondant recipe. It’ll tell you all the ingredients you need. I’ll provide one in sources.
Also a buttercream icing recipe (google one, there are tons). I honestly don’t like buttercream so I just use my own icing recipe, it tends to work nicer (i think).
A fondant smoother.
Wilton Gel Food Coloring.
A cake turntable (not necessary but EXTREMELY reccommended)
A BIG rolling pin with no handles.
Spatula and Angled Spatula
That’s pretty much it. I’ll edit this if I think of more.

Good Luck!
